FEATURED SAFETY TIP:

Be Wary of Telephone Scams- Like many of our surrounding communities, the village of North Prairie Police Department has received multiple complaints regarding telephone scammers claiming to be with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service).  In checking with the IRS website they have indicated that they will never solicit you by telephone.  The caller can be aggressive at times and in some instances may have a threatening tone.  The caller may also have the last four digits of your social security number and are fishing for the remaining digits.  The call may also show up on your caller ID as the IRS or you may even receive an email also stating to be from the IRS.  Unless you owe taxes, protect yourself and hang-up the phone.  Do not give the caller any personal information, especially your credit, debit or any prepaid card information. The IRS never asks for payment information over the phone.  If you owe taxes, call them directly at 1-800-829-1040 to speak with an IRS employee to verify if someone has been trying to contact.  If you have received one of these scam calls, you may report the incident with the US Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
